According to the report released by EY in May 2022, the Financial Survey of Brazilian Clubs 2021

Reveals the following data:

That the total revenue of Brazilian clubs in 2021 reaches the value of 7.5 billion reais, +37% compared to 2020.

The report shows growth of  Actual Total Revenue between 2012 and 2021 of +89%

What surprised us was that:

Total Revenue per Club

  • ► Flamengo had the highest total revenue in 2021 (R$1.08 billion), earning R$105 million more than Palmeiras, and 62% more than in 2020.
  • ► Grêmio increased its revenues by R$66 million and surpassed Corinthians 2021.
  • ► Cruzeiro presented higher revenue than América-MG, with R$ 41 million more revenue than the Serie A club.
  • ► Vasco’s revenue was higher than the revenue of some Serie A clubs, such as Fortaleza, Ceará, Atlético-GO, América-MG, Sport, Cuiabá and Juventude.
  • ► The difference between Flamengo’s revenue (highest revenue in the A series in 2021) and Juventude (the smallest revenue in the A series in 2021) was approximately 16 times.

Income without Transferring Players* per Club

  • ► Palmeiras had the highest revenue without player transfers in 2021 (R$838 million), around R$428 million more than in 2020 and R$35 million more than Flamengo. The value is more than double that of the previous season.
  • ► The growth of this revenue line for Northeastern clubs (Bahia, Ceará and Fortaleza) continued in 2021, surpassing América-MG and Cruzeiro from Minas Gerais. Revenue without the transfer of players from Bahia and Fortaleza stood out among the clubs in the Northeast, reaching R$173 million and R$171 million, respectively, R$64 million more than the previous year for Bahia and R$98 million more for Fortaleza.
  • ► Considering revenues without the transfer of players, the difference between Palmeiras (highest revenue without the transfer of 17 Serie A players) and Juventude (lower revenue without the transfer of players) was R$ 773 million.< /li>
  • ► Among the teams from São Paulo, Palmeiras presented the highest revenue without player transfers, with R$ 838 million. Corinthians came in second with R$474 million, followed by São Paulo with R$355 million and Santos in fourth with R$300 million.

Player Transfers by Club

  • ► Flamengo remained the club with the highest revenue in the transfer of athletes, being its third consecutive year, with about R$ 56 million more than in the previous season.
  • ► Grêmio, which presented an increase of R$ 29 million compared to the previous season and surpassed the teams from São Paulo. One of the sales was of the young athlete Diego Rosa to Manchester City of England, which took place in 2020, but only had his transfer made in 2021 after turning 18.

► Corinthians showed a significant reduction of R$161 million compared to 2020, being surpassed by 16 teams such as Ceará, Bahia and Vasco. 17

► Flamengo, Grêmio, Palmeiras, São Paulo, Fluminense and 19 Santos raised amounts in excess of R$100 million from 20 transfers of athletes.

That this market has already proven itself to bring results, we certainly already know that.

But the numbers are indeed incredible, as this 2021 result shows:

Exercise Results

Shown the results of the exercises of each club in 2021:

► Flamengo posted the biggest surplus for the year (R$178 million), followed by Palmeiras (R$123 million), both driven by revenues from broadcasting rights and awards.

► Vasco and Botafogo in 2021, presented the 3rd and 5th largest surpluses, respectively.

► It is important to note that for the revenues presented in 2021, they were considered part of the revenues from broadcasting rights and awards and Matchday of the championships that started in 2020 and ended in 2021.

► Even with part of these 2020 revenues being added to the 2021 fiscal year, 10 clubs had a deficit.
